30 Instagram Content Ideas From One Senior Session
/I hear it all the time from senior photographers. “I have nothing to post to Instagram!” Guess what I say to that? WHATEVER!
You don’t need more to post. You need a strategy for getting the most out of the images and video from your senior photography sessions that you do have.
So let’s talk about strategically posting behind the scenes from your senior sessions and stretching your content on Instagram.

Here’s how to turn one senior session into 30 different pieces of content on Instagram over the course of a month:
WEEK ONE:
Monday - Introduce your senior & talk about what a great time you had at her session plus throw in a little back of the camera sneak peek
Tuesday - Show off her outfits or turn it into a “What To Wear” feature with (insert senior’s name)
Wednesday - BTS with Hair & Makeup and add in a few tips on why having it professionally done is so important ;)
Thursday - Share a beautiful sneak peek & the full behind the scenes reel from your session
Friday - Bloopers! Everybody loves these!
WEEK TWO:
Monday - Share a few Behind The Scenes images to your blog
Tuesday - Share a funny story about trying to narrow down images from the session
Wednesday - Boomerang of what a wall gallery of a few of those images might look like
Thursday - A quick story about getting the studio ready for her Session Premiere Day
Friday - Instastory of Behind the Scenes of the Session Premiere. Make it fun with a quick poll afterwards asking your audience to guess which image was mom’s favorite.
WEEK THREE:
Tuesday - If you do your own editing you could do a quick boomerang or timelapse of your screen. Or you could just talk to the camera saying how excited you are to edit this session and that you’ll show some results later on that afternoon or the next day.
Wednesday - Be sure to show off any custom products you are designing (albums, image boxes, storyboards).
Thursday - You had them vote last week, so go ahead and do the final reveal of mom’s favorite by doing a little sneak peek of mom’s wall portrait on your story.
WEEK FOUR:
Monday - Is it time to show some of those lab shipments coming in? Pile up those boxes and do a quick story :)
Wednesday - Our audiences love behind the scenes & not just of the session. Show all the pretty packaging and putting your client’s order together for them to pick up.
Friday - Show off your client’s order all displayed for pickup or your client’s actual reaction to flipping through her image box or album.
And here are some bonus Instastory ideas to work in throughout the year:
Tell them thank you when they book their session!
Tell them how excited you are to see them at their session while you are prepping your gear or cleaning up the studio.
Do a quick behind the scenes story of the style consult.
It’s fun to set you phone up on a tripod & get a time lapse of shooting an outfit. This could easily turn into a reel by adding in a final image from that set.
Share 3 things your audience may not know about your senior.
Make sure you are getting your That’s a Wrap Shot! These are great for posts and for celebrations later on.
Be sure to get a Mother / Daughter shot for Mother’s Day if you can talk mom into it.
Turn some of your behind the scenes pictures into a “What I See / What You See” post or story.
Always celebrate their birthday!
Watch for college announcements and celebrate those!
Share something extra special you love or thought was cool about your senior.
Stay involved & watch for any special moments in their extra curriculars that you can spotlight or celebrate.
Use one of the images or video from the session and add a quote overlay for an inspirational story or post.
