How Reading Upped My Photography Business Game + My 2020 Reading List

I’ve always been a reader. I can remember walking into walls as a young girl because I couldn’t put a book down. My mom was constantly telling me to watch where I was going. Back then it was the Nancy Drew mystery series. Today it’s not much different. I still love to read, but what interests me most are business books. Also, I don’t run into walls anymore! Ha!

Marketing, productivity and business books in general fascinate me. They always have. I can’t get enough of them and honestly, I think that has been what has pushed my senior photography business to the next level. Having an open mind to new ideas, investing in myself and learning new things challenges me to dig deep and to continually improve - not only myself, but my business too.

In a different blog post I told you about the 10 books every senior photographer should have on her book shelf. Those are some of my favorite business books ever! This year I’m back at it again with another list of great ones (so I’ve heard). But instead of haphazardly choosing books to read, I am pre-planning which ones I’ll be reading this year to continue improving my photography business.

What to read to grow your senior photography business | business books for senior photographers, my 2020 reading list, read to grow, marketing books, self development books for photographers, productivity books #photographybusinessplanning #seniorst…

If you aren’t much of a reader but have time on your hands (umm, washing dishes or folding laundry anyone?) get yourself an audible subscription (get 2 free books here) and listen to your books instead. While I do love to read, sometimes I don’t have the physical time to sit down with a book, so I always have a business book queued up and ready to listen to when I have some idle time or an upcoming road trip. Multitasking at it’s finest! And with that . . .

Here is my 2020 Reading List:

My goal is to read at least one book a month, and I feel like this is a good mixture of marketing, sales, productivity and self development books. If I have time I would love to sneak in these two also: Stories That Stick by Kindra Hall and Superfans by Pat Flynn. We’ll see where the year takes me!

So what’s on your reading list this year?

Am I missing any good ones? Or do you want to read along with me? I’m going to start with High Performance Habits in January. Woohoo! If you want to read along with me, send me a DM over on Instagram. I’d love to know how your like these books and how they help improve your photography business too :)

Here’s to another year packed with good books on our shelves!
